Riots in Potiskum, Yobe State.

Reports coming from Potiskum in Yobe State says that youth in the town are rioting in protest of last week’s attack on the cattle market which led to the death of over 60 people.

A resident of Potiskum, Adamu Mohammed, informed us that the riot started when a group of cattle traders convened at the site of the attack to pray to “God to expose those behind the killings”.

Mr. Adamu told Premium Times that shortly after the cattle rearers started the prayers, soldiers from the Joint Task Force (JTF) arrived and surrounded them.

“There is a general feeling in town that Boko Haram are not behind the killings and people believe that the JTF people have been compromised, otherwise, there is no way an attack of this magnitude will take place without any form of assistance from the security agents considering their number in Potiskum,” Mr. Mohammed said.

The witness also said the arrival of the soldiers at the market today raised tension in the town, and the youth started burning tyres and blocking the roads in defiance of the soldiers.
